Rethinking cheese presentation – A smarter crate for Colruyt

The recent assignment from Colruyt, one of Europe’s leading retailers, reflects exactly why our mission matters.

The Challenge. Colruyt wanted to rethink the way cheese is presented in stores. Currently, cheese is displayed and stocked in orange crates. While functional, these crates present several issues:

  • Distracting colors, the bright orange draws more attention than the cheese itself, overshadowing the product.
  • Visibility problems, with crates stacked above the shelves, store staff cannot clearly see what is inside from below, leading to inefficiencies.
  • Poor presentation, the bulky, brightly colored crates look unattractive on the shelf, diminishing the overall shopping experience.
  • For a retailer known for efficiency and quality, this was not good enough.

The Solution. Working closely with Colruyt, Elips designed a new crate with both functionality and presentation in mind:

  • Transparent front and back panels, allowing full visibility of the cheese for both customers and staff.
  • Anthracite-colored long sides, creating visual calm and focus on the product, not the crate.
  • Sales-driven design, better visibility and a more premium presentation increase customer engagement and drive sales.

Why it Matters? Our mission is to collaborate closely with business partners, clients, and suppliers, combining Dutch forward thinking with Chinese expertise to provide practical consultancy, innovative solutions, and reliable sourcing. This project with Colruyt shows how we bring that mission to life. By listening to the retailer’s needs, observing pain points on the shop floor, and applying smart design, we created a solution that is not only more sustainable but also commercially powerful.
