Colruyt rethinking cheese presentation, a smarter crate for Colruyt
With a smarter crate solution, Colruyt is improving efficiency, reducing waste, and creating a cleaner, more attractive way to present cheese in-store.
The Challenge. Colruyt, one of Europe’s leading food retailers, wanted to upgrade how cheese was presented in stores. Their existing system relied on orange crates, which created several challenges. Distracting colors, the bright orange overshadowed the cheese, drawing attention away from the product. Visibility problems, stacked crates above shelves made it difficult for staff to see inside, slowing replenishment. Poor presentation, bulky, brightly colored crates looked unattractive, lowering the perceived quality of the shopping experience. For a retailer recognized for efficiency and quality, this approach no longer matched customer expectations.
The Solution. In close collaboration with Colruyt, Elips Solutions designed a new generation cheese crate that combines efficiency, sustainability, and premium presentation. Key features include. Transparent front and back panels, giving customers and staff clear visibility of the product. Anthracite-colored long sides, providing a calm, neutral look that lets the cheese stand out. Durability and sustainability, crates are long-lasting, repairable, and fully recyclable. Sales-driven design, enhanced presentation encourages shopper engagement and stimulates higher sales.

Why It Matters? At Elips Solutions, our mission is to partner with retailers, suppliers, and clients, combining Dutch forward thinking with Chinese expertise to deliver practical consultancy, innovative solutions, and reliable sourcing. The Colruyt project illustrates this mission in action: turning operational pain points into smart, sustainable solutions that also elevate the customer experience.
The Bigger Picture. While this project focused on cheese, the lessons apply across categories. Smarter packaging and display tools can reduce waste, improve efficiency, and strengthen brand perception, ultimately driving sales growth. The Colruyt cheese crate is more than a redesign: it demonstrates how sustainability, functionality, and presentation can work hand in hand to make retail smarter, simpler, and more successful.
